David in Vienna |
Belvedere Palace Built by Prinz Eugene, who was a successful general around 1700. Now it houses an art museum. |
Street in the city center Not everything in town is palaces, but there are many old buildings, and churches are ever-present. |
The archive building You go in the door to the left and the first 5 windows in the next floor up is the reading room. |
The Military History Museum. |
Excavation in front of the palace Shows layers of history from Roman settlement, through mediecal houses, and earlier palace buildings. |
St Stephan's Cathedral big gothic cathedral in the center square of the city. |
Inside St Stephan's |
Statue outside the Palace |
Karlsplatz at night Since I was working during the day I did much of my touring in the evening. |
Hofburg Palace at night |
and Hofburg in the daytime |
Art History museum at least the top of it, at night when I came out from visiting. |
Inside the Art History museum It was very dark inside, to keep the old paintings from deteriorating, and though I tried to take pictures it was difficult. |
Kids playing on elephant statue in front of the Natural History museum. |
Armour in the Hofburg museum some of the emperors were avid collectors of armour. |
Jousting armour in the Hofburg museum |
Roman ruins under the street You go down a little set of stairs to the side of a cafe and just below the street is this museum of Roman buildings. |
Eistraum Outdoor ice-rinks set up in the winter in front of the city hall. |
More Eistraum There were ice paths through the park connecting the different rinks, and lights, music, and stands selling food and drink. |
Rathaus (City Hall) lit up for the skating. |
Bears in a window display Behind them is my favorite ice-cream place. |
Wierd dress in another window display by the ice-cream place. I got ice-cream there a bunch. |
Blue A view of statues and vistas of Vienna. (I didn't reset the colour balance on my camera after coming outside, but I like the effect.) |
