I went to Heidelberg for a yeast conference organised by the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL)

I fly into Frankfurt |
And then take the ICE to Heidelberg |
I stay at Hotel Kohler |
Before the conference I go to Franzi's office |
What's that in the sky? A parrot! |
Parrots hang out near Franzi's building |
And have nests right in it |
The bus takes us to the conference |
There is a new building all spirally |
In fact, it's a double helix! |
The double helix from below |
And above |
There is a nice lecture theatre |
Where we have talks (this is Fred Dietrich I know from Duke) |
There is a poster session |
On a free afternoon I visit with Franzi and Hannah |
We take a drive to a mountain village... |
Dilsberg |
It is pretty with autumnal buildings |
And someone celebrating a new birth |
Doors are carved |
Someone's railing has wrought iron fish |
Wine |
And beer! |
Even the water pump is decorative |
We walk along the outside of the wall |
Hannah gets a ride |
The view out is very pretty |
As is looking back at the town |
At Franzi's place I like their efficient parking garage |
Fussel says hi to me |
Hannah says hi to Fussel |
Fussel is a good kitty He knows he's not allowed in the kitchen |
Franzi also has a tribble which she lets me take home! |
On the way back I pass performance art in Heidelberg |
At the conference I see I am not the only one who takes strange photos |
He also noticed the toilet flushes look like budding yeast |
The conference ends with a party |
On the roof |
You can walk around the outside helices and see the view |
The morning I leave I have breakfast with Tonya |
Then it's back on the ICE |
And to the airport |
Where I have some Häagen Dazs before heading home |
