EMBO Yeast

I went to Heidelberg for a Yeast conference at EMBL, run by EMBO, and also visited Franzi.

On a rainy day I leave home	And take the plane to Frankfurt	I take the high speed train to Heidelberg
The view from my hotel	I take a bendy-bus	To Heidelberg Uni and Franzi's building
To visit Franzi	In the morning, the conference sends a bus	Which climbs the hill
Up to EMBL	The conference is introduced by Dr Knop	We have lunch in the EMBL cafeteria
I give a poster in the poster session	They take us on a tour of Heidelberg	Our tour leader buys tickets for us
And we take the funicula up to...	Heidelberg castle	From the castle we see a "light bow" over Heidelberg
This arch was a birthday gift to Elizabeth Stuart from her husband Frederick	Among the carved flowers hide animals like this lizard	And frog
And snail	And even a cicada!	This is me by the small barrel
At the big barrel we climb up	And over	A view of the big barrel
The setting sun lights the castle in front of a rainbow	We visit a cathedral	With modern stained glass windows
But the highlight of the tour is this statue of Bunsen!	That evening is the conference banquet	The next day Franzi and I take the tram
Out to Weinheim where we meet Christoph	Weinheim is famous for the two hills each with a castle	In a small park is a bird zoo
With parrots	A pheasant	And his mate
Cockatiels	Canaries	More parrots
Including these bright red ones	In the town centre we eat autumn onion pie	We climb to the castle on the smaller hill
From there, we see the higher hill	We climb to the top of the tower	Anne at the tower top
Franzi at the tower top	Chrisoph and Franzi wait for the train back	We take a double-decker train
Inside the train	Christoph and Franzi take me to "McCafe" in McDonalds	Which has surprisingly tasty treats
I get decked out with all my backpacks	And take the train through the sunset	To catch the high-speed train which is very crowded
At home I cook the spaetzle Franzi gave me	David enjoys it
