I travelled with our iGEM Team to MIT, where we competed in the iGEM Jamboree.

My trip starts waiting for the taxi at the Kettlebridge Fast 'n' Fresh |
We have breakfast at the airport |
Olivia and I sit together on the plane |
We see Delft iGEM and later find several more teams on the same flight |
Almost to Boston we go in circles |
Chris buys us all tickets for the T |
We take the T |
To our hotel |
Where Boston is obscured by fog |
The next morning we go out for breakfast |
And Boston is clearly visible |
MIT's Stata Center a central hub for iGEM |
Our team gives a practice talk |
Chris (uniquely sans bowtie) is convinced... |
To add a St Andrews graffiti to the board |
Jim enhances it |
The graffiti board notice our graffiti! |
We work some more on the talk |
The next morning we head to the auditorium |
For breakfast |
And the introduction |
Over lunch some last minute preparations |
And then testing our new laser pointer |
The moment arrives! The students give our presentation |
Afterwards we go to the pub with Newcastle |
We show our support for other Scottish teams: Edinburgh |
And Aberdeen |
Plus our friends at Newcastle |
At the poster session the students explain our work |
Then yellow school buses arrive |
The students love them! |
They take us to Jillians for the party |
Where there is dancing |
And games like pool |
The final morning we gather for the results |
Cambridge, last year's winner, tries to pass off a wooden BioBrick |
But the real one is revealed |
When the Gold Medal list is shown... we're on it!!! (look in the middle column, second from the bottom) |
The team is happy |
Very happy |
We also see Edinburgh win Best Model |
And the Grand Prize goes to Slovenia, who now holds the BioBrick |
